The Rap Type Mag Awards (RTM Awards) celebrated more than music and entertainment when a local Female rapper named Ms Kulie was honoured with a special trophy for making a meaningful impact at Elim through Hip hop.
The award recognised Ms Kulie’s contribution to the communities around Elim and surroundings through hip hop, highlighting the power of music to inspire, connect and create positive change beyond the stage
Ms Kulie’s Music journey started at Backyard Studios under Makapeni (Tribe of One)
Ms Kulie grew up loving poetry while listening to hip hop icons like The Notorious B.I.G, Missy Elliot and Lil Kim, that’s where she thought that one day she’s going to be a star.
Ms Kulie got inspired by people who gave her a chance to shine in their work, people who are in the Hip hop industry, People who gave her a chance to work; The Producers, Beat makers, Other Rappers as well… locally including the likes of Makapeni (Tribe of One) as the first person who had a thought that she had potential, Dee Nkomo, Tswyza came in at the time she reached a point where she thought she wasn’t worthy or couldn’t record anymore or do some rap work because she thought she wasn’t dope enough but he would send her some intros to work on, The Late Dee Michaels, The Late HHP to name a few… the current artists include the likes of Drew XL, Malcolm Zee, Lady Shiks and More
The RTM Awards continue to create a platform for celebrating the people who contribute to the development of hip hop at grassroots level. Through recognising artists, legends and community contributors, Rap Type Mag hopes to inspire a new generation to understand that hip hop is not only a form of entertainment, but also a powerful tool for expression, unity and community development.
The honour is a reminder that an artist’s legacy can extend far beyond the music — it can be found in the lives they touch and the communities they help build.
