Lekkersweet, founder of Khelo-Rap's Interview

Lekkersweet is a Khelo-Rap and Tsonga-Rap artist from Bolobedu. His real name is Sammy Nthoke.

Why Hip hop?
Hip Hop allows me to fully express myself. I grew up listening to different genres and was able to grasp the lyrics of any song quickly. When I was in primary I would only write Kwaito lyrics, however my verses were long and forced me to do hip hop.

Who is your Mzansi Hip hop artist role model and why?
Instead of a role-model I just have hip hop artists who inspired and motivated me to do hip hop. The likes of HHP, Skhwatta Kamp and Zulu-Boy and the reason is that they embrace their own vernacular languages and they are good in it.

What makes Lekkersweet different from other Hip Hop artists?
What is unique about Lekkersweet is that he can fluently rap in Khelobedu and Xitsonga in one song and makes it sounds easy. Being the founder of Khelo-Rap and the fact that I can flow on any type of beat, from Jazz to house.

Who are the Amazing people or organisations have you worked with in this hip hop game?
I worked with Msacho, Spacemunna, Bolo-street Souljaz, Menate, Da Champ, Motsa Lebitso, Saxophone, Note-mash, Dezry-Kay, Coded Media Entertainment, Skhipa Productions and more.

One word to describe Lekkersweet?
Pioneer

Do you think you have what it takes to improve Mzansi hip hop to a better level?
Yes. I wanna create a sub-genre that ends up being an independent genre.

You are also a radio presenter, is there a difference between Lekkersweet a Rapper and Lekkersweet a radio presenter?
The only difference is that his show is a 90% English show, while the rapper uses 90% vernacular in his songs.

Shout outs
Shout out to all the people who like my music, not forgetting my potential fans too.

First day at high School, how was the experience?
I was that guy who always went to the front and say some funny stuff as well imitates Kwaito and Hip Hop artist’s songs when the teacher is out. So the experience was amazing and helped realise that I was born to entertain.
