What Got You into Rap?
I used to listen to Old School Rap back in a days wen I was still young, I used to memorise songs of American Rappers, the Likes of 50Cent, Eminem, 2Pac e.t.c. I used to Rap those songs on the streets and at school until the teachers Discover that I got talent, they used to call me to perfom whenever there were Functions, My peers were amazed & started following my foot steps as things went on and on. High School level, I tried to write my Own lyrics, it was difficult but with practice and consistence, I was slowly improving.
Then I wrote a song called Murapper wamutsonga & others.
If you were not into Rap, What would you be?
I would be Acting! I love Being on TV, Its my perfect mirror.
What is the Good and the Bad thing about Tsonga Rap according to Your Experiences
The Good thing is that; I dont struggle when I'm writting lyrics because I'm using my mother tongue. I'm different and the competition is less due to the type of music that I Create, fusing Tsonga traditional music with western hardcore Rap, Trap and of course Kwaito has played a major role in me finding my own style...
The Challenging part is that whenever I release a song, I'll have to make sure that I translate my lyrics into other languages so that all of my fans can relate, although tsonga is popular but we are still facing language barriers.
What do you mostly write about in Your Music?
About life in general, My struggles, future, My background and My purpose in this world.
You are One of the Few Tsonga Rappers who appeared on TV through Rap, What would you say it's a Challenge to other Tsonga Rappers?
No it's not really challenging, its all about hustling information, Connecting with other folks, exchange information because knowledge is power & it can transform any Rapper's current situation for Better
The Track "Danger Zone" ft Wizi Beats, Would you say this is the song that got you on a Spotlight or there are other tracks that got you to the level you are currently at?
Nope I've been Making Hits ever since I've mastered my craft, I've produced hits like Vataxikuma, Head Vosho, Mucato wa Mahala ft Mthimbani, & Mawaza ft Maseven.
Chezman... What is the story behind this Stage name?
I got this name when I was still young doing miracles with the Mic at my primary school level, I dont know who gave me the name, I just heard people calling me Chezman and I liked it, with the fact that my first name is "Chester" so the combination kinda made sense.
How is the Response from Your Family and Friends towards Your Music Journey?
I used to share My Vision with friends and family sometimes, they used to say im crazy, "that I should get a proper job", when I told them I wanna be on TV, I wanna be on Radio, they thought I wasn't serious, they would sometimes criticise and Oppose. Some of my Friends became enemies because they never believed or understood my passion for music.
But today! here they are... proud of me, and first time they saw me on TV, some of My family phoned and Cried because they know My Struggle...
Few Years to come, Where will Chezman be?

If you were to change One thing about Hip hop in South Africa, what would it be?
I would change the need for theatrics. SA artists are super talented and do not need PR stunts to get their message across. I would also change the trend of releasing 1 song and milking it for a year or more
Mayhem KS... what is the story behind this stage name?
When I was younger trying to decide my rap name, I went with "King Spitta" (KS). I then decided to add "Mayhem" because I wanted to make raps that cause the whole place to erupt in chaos. It used to be Mayhem King Spitta but I shortened it to Mayhem KS because it's easier to remember
Most of your graphics have a purple color on them, does this have anything to do with your music or you as an artist?
Yes it does. I actually intended for everything to be Indigo which is a variation of purple. Indigo is a colour representing INTUITION. I try to make music that awakens one's Intuition. That inner voice, you know
If you were not into Rap, What would you be doing?
Definitely just travelling and immersing myself in cultures all over the world. Dancing till the sun sets and rises again. Anything still in the creative sphere that has me connecting with other human beings
How has the Covid-19 Lockdown-SA affected your music, and what can we expect from Mayhem KS after this period?
Covid has actually helped my career, believe it or not. I was forced to sit down and reflect on what my actual message and purpose is and how I want to package that to the world creatively. It helped me think about how I want to differentiate myself from other artists while adding value to the listener. You can definitely expect a lot more music, visuals & shows from Mayhem KS after the lockdown
What is the good and the bad thing about hip hop in your hood according to your experiences?
The good thing is that my good is filled with fierce, masterful rappers who can go toe-to-toe with the world's best. Ask anyone in my hood about a rapper named Sabelo Blacc and they'll tell you!
The bad thing is that we still believe that it's just about skill and the music when in actuality there's other dimensions such as branding, marketing etc. But that's a problem that's in many hoods not just mine
Is Rapping a Skill or Talent?
Both. Its definitely a talent because you are born with it. There's a certain feel you have for it that others may not. It's also a skill because you need to put in time to hone it and take it to your fullest capability
How is the Response from Family and friends towards your Music Journey?
It's tricky lol. The thing with most black families is that they frown upon any career that is not conventional. I understand where they are coming from though. They only get on board when it starts paying dividends I guess.
What do you mostly write about in your music and why?
My life, love, my craft, my emotions, my intuition, stories of other people etc.
I don't have a solid "why". These are things that flow from within me when the mic is on, you cav.
I believe I am a vessel that delivers messages from the universe so I rap about whatever comes to me

I Mostly write something that I'm thinking about at the certain time; I love talking about succeeding and winning in life, I've got faith in everything that I do, that can be represented by my song I released in 2017 - "Winning Team" produced by Dj HopeStar... I can also write about parties; bring the vibe in the party, this can be represented also by the songs I've released in 2018; I had an event invitation for a night show that needed some dope vibe tracks to dance and there came two of my songs; "Dance Now" and "Do U Like It" produced by Leon Hlabathi" I can write about anything as long as I can flow and rap on the beat, but I love trap beats.
If you were to choose between Engineering and Music, What would you choose and why?
I would choose music, in music you have all your time to enjoy your life and there's no one who will tell you what to do. Engineering is a lifetime job and it's not 100% guaranteed that you'll get it easy.
What is the good and the bad thing about Hip hop in your hood?
The good thing about the people in the hood is that they showcase their talents in different ways and that's awesome I'm saying this because if they use both English and Home language, they benefit in learning, knowing how to speak and to put on the words. Remember, there's no one who'll teach you how to articulate, that's why most people only know how to write English but can't speak it.
The bad thing is people now beef other people to get fans and that makes them not to do dope songs with a message in it, so they end up not going anywhere in the music industry
How is the response from your family and friends towards your Hip hop Journey?
Well my mother loves and supports me, he also attends the events I perform at.. like "Night Before Christmas" hosted by Clemour Ngobeni from TheVoiceSA at Fountain of life chavani, she attended and after the event she asked why didn't you perform only one song? That was 2017, I had no where to record and I had to pay a lot of money for a song, she asked how much was the studio equipment set to show that she cares, I said it was expensive at the time she wasn't working but I promised her that I will buy the studio equipment while i was still at high school. However, there's a lot of family members who don't even know that I'm in a hip hop journey but I guess the last thing they wanna see is me appearing on Channel O which i believe they will soon.
Friends are the best i can say, because they're always supporting me financially and giving me advices on how I can succeed in my music industry
What makes a great Rapper in your opinion?
I mostly use easy English words which everyone can hear and enjoy rapping with me, I don't do mumble rapping and i love rhyming

What got you into the Music industry in the First place?
Heart break.
What else does Perdro Barbosa do besides Live Entertainment and Musician?
Well till this all covid thing happened that was it I didn’t have time for anything else, now I’m trying to find other stuff to do, I have started studying video editing which is something I always enjoyed.
What do you mostly enjoy when you are performing live?
The interaction when u connect with a crowd. And they feel the message you passing on.
What song do you like performing to the fans and why?
Hehe all of them I guess. It depends on what mood I’m in. That is a tough one. But generally when u have a new song u really want to play it live. The right moment is key though.
What makes a Great Live Performer in your Opinion?
A person who truly feels what they performing and manages to pass that onto the crowd.
What is the Good and the Bad thing about being a Musician according to Your Experiences?
The good mainly the fact that u are able to make people feel and pass a message to make them feel they not alone. The bad well, the attention can be consuming, as well as the lifestyle. U miss a lot of your friends and family time and special moments due to the fact u working.
What keeps you busy during this Lockdown period and what can we expect from Pedro Barbosa after this?
Well I am producing my next EP which is coming out in 6 weeks or so. I’m taking a break from Facebook and proabably all social media to focus on that as well as clear my mind a bit. And I’m filming and editing the videos for the EP. also I’m starting a new business that u get to have a personalized song written for you.

Never lose faith. Keep on pushing, you are your worst critic, never let it get to your head. And always follow ur gut feeling.

What is the Good and the Bad thing about Music industry in South Africa according to your experiences?
Being able to create music for a living alone is an amazing honor. The lack of consistent income is the biggest problem in the industry, very few people who actually make the music can live off the music. Personally, being in the forefront of hip hop in SA from the beginning and still find myself very relevant by still moving the culture forward has been the greatest thing in my career so far. Very few artist wish you well... remember that

My name is Gift, meaning MpHo, SipHo, SimpHiwe, which i spell GIPHT. Pronounced Gift with a PH so i called myself pH. Raw X is taken from my production company, Raw X Productions & Studios. So i call myself pH Raw X

Would you say KUXOTAWENA currently has a huge impact on your Music Journey compared to your other hits?
Kinda, but for me it picks up from my first debut single "Wa Ntiva" feat. Thandiswa Mazwai taken from my debut album "From Giyani With Love" about 4 years ago. Both these songs are one of a kind and cannot be compared to any other records in the whole freakin world. Both these songs show you my versatility as an artist, producer & collaborator.
What does it mean to you Being one of the people who are making it Big in the Hip hop Game from Giyani and representing the Xitsonga tribe?
Means a whole lot... but there are so many more talented artists from limpopo that need their shine. We need more tsonga rappers and urban artist, I will be doing my bit to expose them.
How is the response from Family and Friends towards your music Journey and the fact that you Pursued Music over Interior Design?
It wasn't easy for my parents as you can imagine, they still struggle at times with it but fully support me nonetheless. My siblings have been amazing and supportive from day 1.
The Covid19 Lockdown-SA disturbed a lot of activities in the Music and Entertainment industry, What can we expect from pH Raw Xafter this period?
Ive put a band together to enable me to present my music on stage at a high level, we were meant to begin rehearsing the same week the lockdown began. So i can't wait to pick that up. I will also be pushing new RnB Artist under Raw X, Khan Khalii, with her new EP "Pitsville (Lost In The Trap).

Put God first, spend time with your family, be true to the music and work your ass off.

Multi-talented musician, Neo Mekwa who is well known by his stage name "TrinkX" (Talented Raw Inhospitable Non-Kindle Xtreme) is a 21 years old born and raised in the East Rand side of Johannesburg.
He started falling in love with being a musician at an early age of 13. Growing up TrinkX used to listen to A-Reece who he highly rates as his favorite artist that inspired him to pursue music as his career.
As an independent artist TrinkX aims to make a mark in the music industry with dedication and hard work, he plans to get his name at the top.
TrinkX started getting recognition when he dropped his official debut single titled "No Pain No Gain" which featured one of South Africa's hit making producer/artist "Msa" and later on released another single "Tonight" which became one of his biggest hit song that got playlisted on more than 6 radio stations, it scored him radio interviews, news paper article feature and a award nomination for 011 Awards Song of The Year.

A-Reece is the person that i can say got me into Hip hop, back in 2013 after listening to his music i fell in love with hip hop music.
What is the Good and the Bad thing about Hip hop in your hood according to your experiences?
Bad thing I've experienced about hip hop in my hood is that most people don't really support hip hop music. They more focused more on commercial house music and more trending genres for example Piano music
But the good thing is that a few of those people who love hip-hop in the hood do fully support us hip hop artist. They acknowledge all the moves we make.
You've participated in quite few activities including the awards nominations... what pushes you to work this hard?
Yes, i have been making quite a few activities such as getting award nominations, doing radio interviews, etc.
What pushes me to do that is the love i really have for music, being an artists is what i always dream about and it is the only thing i ever wanted. I don't want any plan B so i have to push to make it to the top.
What is the Motive behind your music (What do you mostly write about? )
The motive behind my music is my life experiences, my hustle, my craft but mostly love stories because most people in our age and time that we live in find it hard to deal with the challenges that come with relationships and tend to get depressed. I'm that artist who strives to heal souls.
How is the response from your family and friends towards your music journey?
My family found it hard to accpet that i want to be a musicians because parents always worry and want the best for us but now that i have been making it big, they seen me on tv, newspapers and they heard me on radios so that really made them proud, happy and understand that this is what i was made for and im going somewhere with my music.
My friends are fully supportive they believe in me so much and that keeps me going.
TrinkX... What is the story behind this stage name?
The name TrinkX really has a deep meaning and that has to do with the person who i am. Back in High School i used to tell my friends that i want my stage name to be TrinkX and one of them helped me create a meaning around it which is: Talent Raw Inhospitable Non-Kindle Xtreme. Thats just me!
Few years from now, where will TrinkX be?
A few years from now i see myself making it in the music industry. I always tell myself that everybody wants to be the best and be a the top so i wouldn't mind being just an avarage main stream artist meaing not being big, big but then just be well known and well streamed/viewed artist.
What mistake do you think other upcoming Rappers do that makes their breakthrough process slow?
One mistake i think other upcoming rappers do that slows their breakthrough process is that they full of pride and they like to compete a lot and by that i mean they always want to make music to prove a point forgetting that the main key is to make nice music for people so they can listen and look up to the music. Therefore Focusing on competition makes you forgot the main point.
