G.Ice Honoured for Outstanding Community Impact Through Hip Hop around Chavani Village at The RTM Awards 2026

The Rap Type Mag Awards (RTM Awards) celebrated more than music and entertainment when a local rapper named G.Ice was honoured with a special trophy for making a meaningfulw impact at Chavani Village through Hip hop.

The award recognised G.Ice’s contribution to the communities around Chavani Village and surroundings through hip hop, highlighting the power of music to inspire, connect and create positive change beyond the stage

G.Ice started his music journey around 20 years ago inspired by the likes of Lymphinics, Makapeni (Tribe of One), Soshangan (Ndavezitha) and Mchangani to name a few.

These are the rappers that inspired G.Ice to do Tsonga Rap.
G.Ice used to rap in English but the moment he heard these guys rapping in Xitsonga, that’s where he realised that a person can actually rap in Xitsonga.

Songs like “Giya” by Makapeni & Lymphinics and “Maxangu” by Black Warriors we the songs that were making noise during that era.

First song that made G.Ice known or popular is the song named “Chavani” ft Juicy Ash… that’s where a lot of people started recognising him

He wrote this song based on the good and bad things that were happening in his hood

Some of the Artists that G.Ice worked with in the hip hop scene are the likes of Juicy Ash, Lester Matthews, Manotry, Hanxo dyi Obzo, King Vulture, Chris Army, G-Man, Slykool, Wise Pain and Many More

The trophy serves as a symbol of appreciation for the rapper’s dedication and contribution to the community, while also encouraging other artists to use their platforms for positive influence.

The RTM Awards continue to create a platform for celebrating the people who contribute to the development of hip hop at grassroots level. Through recognising artists, legends and community contributors, Rap Type Mag hopes to inspire a new generation to understand that hip hop is not only a form of entertainment, but also a powerful tool for expression, unity and community development.

The honour is a reminder that an artist’s legacy can extend far beyond the music — it can be found in the lives they touch and the communities they help build.

Big Shout out to G.Ice.
