Rap Type Mag is proud to announce the very first RTM Awards 2026, an exciting
celebration dedicated to honouring local legends who have made a meaningful impact
on their communities through Hip hop Music
The awards ceremony will take place on 19 September 2026 at Lizpeter Guesthouse
(Xinkuwani), Chavani Village, under the theme “Black with a Touch of Red”.
The RTM Awards were created to recognise artists, creatives and cultural figures
whose contributions have helped shape and strengthen the local hip hop movement.
The event will bring together established names, emerging talent, industry stakeholders
and members of the community for an evening celebrating music, culture and legacy.
Among the legends being honoured are Makapeni (The Tribe of One), Metro CMC,
Lester Matthews, G Ice, Chezman, Nebo Sixfour, Flash Cortez, EMC Style and Ms
Kulie.
“This event is about more than trophies,” says Jabulani Jay Kubayi, Founder of Rap
Type Mag. “It is about recognising the people who have contributed to our communities
and to the growth of hip hop, while giving them their flowers while they can still
appreciate them. The RTM Awards are a celebration of legacy, culture and the power
of music to bring people together.”
Guests attending the ceremony are encouraged to observe the official dress code:
Formal black with a touch of red.
The RTM Awards will also provide an opportunity for artists, creatives, brands and
members of the public to connect and celebrate the continued growth of South African
hip hop at grassroots level
