If I could change anything; I guess is the people's perspective towards hip-hop artists in S.A

The good things about being a rapper is, I love what I do to give good message to people, mostly My music is My experiences in My life 

The Bad things that I’ve experienced is when your own people don’t support you, strangers give more support than your own people

How is the response from your family and friends towards your music journey?

My family is more supportive to what I do, they even came to my show in Cape Town. My friends really love what I do as well and they are more supportive 

King SPX… what’s the story behind this stage name?

The story behind my name King Spx; People and friends used to call me “King Sprite”, so the moment I left home, come to Cape Town for work and I started my music career, I had to let everything be about where I’m from, Tsonga Rapper from Ximhungwe. So I used King Spx.. “S”, that stands for Surprise as my name, “P”, stand for Proud, that’s is my little brother’s name, and “X” stands for Ximhungwe which is my Hood  

What is this one thing you wish to change about Tsonga Rap?

Tsonga Rap is perfect, I see Canicee he’s doing good for Tsonga Rap, Mthimbani I recommend him as a legend of Tsonga Rap an many more 

What do you Love Most about your fans when you are on stage?

What I love about My fans is; they are more supportive, when I’m on a stage, everyone sing my songs, they give me power and positivity to keep on pushing  

Why do people say you look like Don Toliver and what’s your take on that?

At first I thought it’s just a joke, I ended up understanding when I started to do more research on him… I Like his pictures and everything. You can’t realise or spit who you look like on your own.

I feel good, I don’t have any problem with it, I fuck with his music too. he’s one of my favourite artists on my list

I’m sending shout outs to Emtee, Lil Durk an Canicee

The song "Murder”(Dlaya) is a battle Rap song. It's about My lyrical ability. I have made it just to  remind My fans and Rappers that even if I don't keep Myself busy with Music, that doesn't change anything when it comes to My Rap skills. Xphola will die a lyrical beast. 

The music video portrays what the verses are all about. Meaning when it comes to My lyrical skills, I'm like an assassin. 

M Geezy shot the video. That man taught me that it's not about how many machines you have, it's about how bigger your brains are. You can have a bigger machine, but if you don't know how to use it, it's a waste of equipment.

We have spent between  20 to 24 hours to shoot the video. M Geezy found us well prepared to take the visuals. I sent him a script of the video a week before he came to my "kasi".  

The shooting took place on the 1st day of a week (Sunday, May 2023) 2 days after shooting, M Geezy gave us the full version of the music video. 

I won't say much about Jay-B because He is My partner in Crime. I have been working with him since My 1st project.  Working with Socha Bee was great. I have always been wishing and hopping to work with a skilled female Tsonga Rapper and Socha was the 1st female Tsonga rapper  I have worked with.

Growing up, I didn't have a favorite music genre due to My family's influence. However, My brother introduced me to Nelly's music when I was 11-13, and I found him cool, wanting to emulate him. In high school, I became so passionate about music that I preferred walking alone to school to listen without interruption. I would lip sync to Lil Wayne and J Cole songs, imagining myself performing on stage or in a music video. LOL, crazy ain’t it? Eventually, I discovered GieKay's music, prompting me to ask him for studio connections, leading to the birth of Dinz F. My influences in Rap were my high school friend GieKay, as well as Lil Wayne and J Cole.

What is the good and the bad thing about being a Rapper around your hood?

Unfortunately, there aren't many positives. In high school, we faced a lot of ridicule, especially in the neighborhood, particularly for the type of music we make. Despite not being booked frequently, I don't mind because I don't envision performing my music in clubs or taverns, or wherever, especially where I come from. Though I've only performed on stage a few times, it was intense and energetic, as my brother Onedile can confirm. However, I'm grateful for the small group of people from my village and beyond who understand and support my music by streaming it.

What is this one song that made a lot of people to know or love Dinz F?

Honestly, I don't think many people know me. If they do, I apologize for not noticing. However, a small group knows me as a producer. In terms of rap, I have two songs that have introduced me to some people: "F*ck A Rand" with my brother Onedile and "Man Now" with Canicee.

How is the response from your family and friends towards your music journey?

My family just watch me do my thing, they be like whatever happens man. LOL! Thing is nobody listens to hip hop from my family. But I tell you, none of my family members have ever discourage me or say anything bad like “You should quit doing music” etc, no. My circle is small, so a few friend a that I have , support me and I appreciate them for that. 

Dinz F… what’s the story behind this stage name?

That comes from my government name, Forget Dinda. One high school classmates used to call me “Dinz” ,modifying my lastname, so I just added the first letter of my name “Forget”. 

What is this one thing you wish to change about Hip Hop in SA?

I wish we could have more strictly hip hop shows in SA. That way the culture can be kept alive for sure. 

What do you Love Most about your fans when you are on stage?

I wouldn’t say I have fans like that and like I said I’ve never been on stage that much. But the few times I was on stage everybody showed me love man. It was unexpected, honestly. And I loved how they jamming along.

Xphola (Real name Sipho Malatji) is a Tsonga Rapper and Hip hop Music Producer who’s originally from Bolobedu but moved to Dzumeri (Giyani) in December 2003, until today he still resides there at (Mageva village).

I spend most of My time working as an instructor at Gabaza Security Services, right at My village. I also work as a Peer Educator at Dzumeri Health Center.

Who or what got you into Hip hop?

What got me into Hip Hop was the love I had for music since I was a kid. I grew up in a family that  loved music and dancing very much. Then, after matric I felt like it was a calling for me to make My own music. I wrote My first song with no access of recording studio untlill  I found one. I was listening to rappers like Snoop Dogg a lot and wished I could rap like him and Eminem as well.

From when you've started to now, how has the journey been in the Tsonga Rap industry?

The journey of Xitsonga Rap, from then till now has changed, but not that much. It has improved when it comes to the style and quality of productions; but financially, it is still the same. 

It never grew to a level where Rappers of other languages in South African try to Rap in Xitsonga 

What is the Good and the Bad thing about Tsonga Rap in your hood?

The good thing is, people do listen to Tsonga Rap and enjoy it. They support us and attend gigs. They also buy our songs through digital platforms.

What's bad is; it's only few people stream, buy or download our songs. Most of them share our music to one another through WhatsApp and Bluetooth, yet they say they are supporting. 

Would you consider yourself as the King of Tsonga Rap or there's someone whom you can give the title to?

According to how I understand music (all genres), music has no King because people don’t like the same style of music. That means, every individual has their own King. For example; Jesus was a King, but not all people considered Him as one.

How is the response from Family and Friends towards your Music Journey?

My Family and close Friends are My bigger Fans, including My Mother, She does listen to My songs, calls Me through the phone and tell Me how much proud she is about My Job. Since I’ve started Rapping, I’ve never lost support from any of My Friends. 

What makes a Good Rapper in your Opinion?

Creativity; A good Rapper should be able to create a song with lyrics that not everyone could think of (that's a very important key in Rap). It doesn't matter how many songs You can make or how fast You can Rap, What's crucial is the logic of your lyrics, rhymes, punchlines and the message conveyed.

What is this one song that made a lot of people know and love Xphola?

Many of My fans recognized Me through difrent songs. Actually, what Made people fall in Love with My music was not a specific song, it was My style of doing funny Raps (combining comedy and hip hop).

Xphola… What is the story behind this Stage Name?

My name is Sipho; when I started Rapping, people called me Sphola (taken from Sipho). So because I  wanted a unique Stage Name, I then replaced "S" with "X" and make it “Xphola” and I'm still the only one  called by this name.

Please tell us about your latest EP on how it came about and more

My EP "Nghala ya Judah" was recorded in September 2023. Everyone knows about the battle I’ve been having with Thembi "Mthimbani" since 2016. So, the aim of the project was to keep the promise I’ve made that I'm going to diss him till the 15th track.

I was also showing that I can even diss him further than the promise I have made. 

Everybody that knows Me, they know very well that I'm a battle Rapper since day one.
